Fantastic Places
The work currently available here is completed as an addition to the unit on Changing Environments, where you study a local environment to see how it has changed over time and how it can be managed sustainably. This work looks at UNESCO World Heritage Sites, arguably a collection of all the fantastic places that the world has to offer. You will need to use higher-order thinking skills to complete this task - you will be evaluating and creating.
This mini-unit should take you about a week to complete in groups. Consider the following questions: |
1. Why should we conserve/preserve cultural and natural sites?
2. What makes a site worth preserving? How do we develop the criteria for this? Develop your own list of criteria.
3. Consider a current World Heritage site - research it. Does it meet the requirements for your list of criteria?
4. Are UNESCO's criteria good? Evaluate them for their positives, negatives, and the things you could do to improve them.
All the handouts you need for this assignment are embedded below.
